Long time no post – time to fix that
Is there anything better than waking up in the morning and knowing that you’re not going to have to go to work? I don’t think there is! It’s great to wake up with that feeling of dread that accompanies most people when they think of a working day ahead, only to suddenly realise that you aren’t needed at work at all.
Of course, it can be annoying when you actually get out of bed thinking that it’s work day before realising, but even then it feels great to crawl back into bed with a cup of coffee.
The reason I’m talking about this is that it happened to me the other day. I went one step further and had a shower and got dressed, which meant that there wasn’t much point in going back to bed, but at least I managed to use my coffee machine good and early. It’s brand new, and so far it’s been great to drink high quality coffee on a daily basis.
On the other hand I hate it when you wake up and think that it’s the weekend before realising that you’ve got to be at work. This is especially bad in the winter – made even worse by the fact that I have to cycle into work all year round (read this if you want to find out why) as the wife has the car on work days. Stepping outside into the freezing cold and then spending the next half an hour cycling to work isn’t a fun experience!
Just so you know, I don’t hate my job, in fact I quite enjoy it (at times). I don’t enjoy waking up early in the morning though, although once I’ve had a shower I’m usually ready to face the day ahead.

Standing Desk Experiment
If you spend a lot of time at a computer – like me – then you’ve probably already been told a hundred times that it’s very bad for you. People usually say this without providing any sort of solution – most of us don’t choose to a sit a computer all day because we enjoy it.
I’ve been reading about standing desks though, and how they force your muscles to work harder and keep you in a more natural position. I decided to give it a go by “constructing” a standing desk out of some boxes, a stool (for the monitor) and some books. My plan is to try it for a couple of weeks and if I like it invest in a real standing desk.
At the moment it’s very tiring but I’m hoping that will become less of a problem as time goes on! I should point out that there are some potential problems associated with standing all day everyday – people in shops will tell you that – so make sure you get a decent pair of shoes so that your feet have some support while you’re standing.
I’ll let you know how the experiment goes. I may even provide a picture of my master piece in the near future so keep an eye out.
