Standing Desk Experiment

May 5th, 2011

If you spend a lot of time at a computer – like me – then you’ve probably already been told a hundred times that it’s very bad for you. People usually say this without providing any sort of solution – most of us don’t choose to a sit a computer all day because we enjoy it.

I’ve been reading about standing desks though, and how they force your muscles to work harder and keep you in a more natural position. I decided to give it a go by “constructing” a standing desk out of some boxes, a stool (for the monitor) and some books. My plan is to try it for a couple of weeks and if I like it invest in a real standing desk.

At the moment it’s very tiring but I’m hoping that will become less of a problem as time goes on! I should point out that there are some potential problems associated with standing all day everyday – people in shops will tell you that – so make sure you get a decent pair of shoes so that your feet have some support while you’re standing.

I’ll let you know how the experiment goes. I may even provide a picture of my master piece in the near future so keep an eye out.
